FOX and MSNBC
Ted Koppel: “The commercial success of both Fox News and MSNBC is a source of nonpartisan sadness for me. While I can appreciate the financial logic of drowning television viewers in a flood of opinions designed to confirm their own biases, the trend is not good for the republic.” The title of the piece was “Olbermann, O’Reilly and the death of real news.”

From Erik Wemple's column in WaPo today: https://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs...=.48258e489abc

I agree with Koppel.

Re: FOX and MSNBC
Hi Blue -- Watch. The Dems are going to filibuster Neil Gorsuch. Payback for Merritt Garland.

Watch. Trump needs Democratic votes to advance his agenda? He will get exactly as many Democratic votes as Barack Obama got Republican votes. Why? The Repubs just proved that obstruction works. Obstruct. The only penalty that the Dems will get will be the House, the Senate and the Presidency. Exactly the same penalty that the Repubs got.

Re: FOX and MSNBC
FTR, I watch way more FOX than I do MSNBC. I gave up on Sean, Bill and Rush years ago.

Re: FOX and MSNBC
MSNBC had that firebrand George Will on tonight. Trump surely peeved Mr. Will during the campaign.

RT, I used to read Fox online as one of my primary stops in my daily news cruise. The more I learned about the influence newsmakers had on actual reporting, the less information I found there that I trusted. I don't deify the Democrats, and believe in knowing about everyone's's warts

I can scarcely watch tv news. I do watch Maddow daily. Absolutely progressive, quite partisan, and hyper as a hamster. But freaking brilliant, and her historical segments that tie into current events are so interesting. She has a few regular guests like Richard Engel and Michael McFaul who understand their subject matter thoroughly.

Another site I look at is the SPLC Hatewatch, which is partly an aggregator site. They were a great source (still are) about the Malheur events last year. Amazing how much of the really ugly regressive politics hide in really small towns, like where I live.

I respect where Koppel is going, but I don't agree 100%.

Re: FOX and MSNBC
Yikes, O'Reilly has reportedly lost over as dozen sponsors/advertisers as a result of recent news about sexual harassment. (My question: did they MISS the news earlier?)

Not sure where else this would go, but read a good piece yesterday about pc language. I am unable to figure out how to paste the url with my kindle, but is is on Huffington post, by Steven Singer, "political correctness, isn't about censorship, it's about decency". Worth looking up.
