Re: Read a good book lately?
^^You're reading some cerebral stuff, Blue.

I'm halfway through the latest Harry Bosch novel by Michael Connelly, The Wrong Side of Goodbye. As is the case with all of his books, I can barely put it down.

Well, that's just it--normally this kind of book would bore you to tears, but this guy knows how to write history and keep you engaged. I can see how Miranda was inspired to write the musical.

Cernow puts in just enough violence, sex, and money to keep the average person interested.

Connelly does write good page turners.

Re: Read a good book lately?
A few months ago I discovered the author Tana French, an Irish novelist who's an incredible mystery writer. While I was reading In the Woods, I couldn't put it down. Some of the characters show up in her other books, and she really knows how to get into the mind of her characters. All of her books are set in and around Dublin.

Just read "The Handmaid's Tale". Couldn't get into it, characters were flat.

Re: Read a good book lately?
I did too a few months ago. Had a hard time figuring out why the story was so popular. I'll give the Netflix (is it?) version a chance now that we have a blu ray DVD.

I read The Handmaid’s Tale a few years after it came out. At the time, I couldn't put it down. It was horrifying to me, and I'm not sure that the concept of a totalitarian government really hit home until I read that book. When I really like a book, I usually don’t see the film version because I find the film to be a let down. There was a 1990 film version with Natasha Richardson made. However, the recent TV film was done in collaboration with Margaret Atwood, and she apparently weighed in on its adaptation.

I know what you mean about trying books in different stages of life. When I was a senior in college, I read Lady Chatterley’s Lover and was astounded at the brilliance of it....it seemed to be all I thought of for a whole semester. I tried re-reading it in my 30s, and wondered what I'd found so captivating about it.

Re: Tana French, I just finished The Trespasser. I didnít know about French when this review came out in 2016, below. She is so good....I hated to finish the book.

Also, Michael Connelly's latest one was fantastic (as usual). Harry Bosch has been replaced by a female detective, kind of a Bosch-personality type, back when Connelly first started writing his crime novels.
