Well, thought I'd be daring and try a new thread. Hope I don't break anything. ;)
Still the same old plans here, but I did something exciting today and bought tickets to see Melvin Seals and JGB (willow will know that one) for next week at a restored classic art deco theater.
Happy Friday everybody!

This was the lead-in to the Off Topic threads -
"While we invited you to discuss topics other than divorce related matters, we do ask that you do not post material "adult" in nature... no profanity, nudity etc. And please... no flames."
So, does this mean no profanity, but nudity is okay? Or does it mean some of you had better get your clothes back on? After all - the posting of pics has now been disabled. Sheesh, we can't even enjoy nudity in the privacy of our own homes? I'm confused.

Considering this is NOT match.com - you might try posting in the Divorce related boards as well..... Legal, Social, Financial.
I'd sure hate to regret including this Off Topic board. ;)

Yes. But the better question would be, "Is it still DOL here?"

Admin - I think you are smart enough to know that this may, initially at least, be the busiest topic area! You gave us a new toy, so it's play time! :D

yeah, I have to admit it's really strange to me. DOL is the only site I've ever posted to (successfully). I'd hate to think I'm posting some of my usual witty, yet sensitive, advice... and in fact be filling a box full of frownie faces.
I think we'll catch up and catch on! Heck, poolman managed to log in:p

Internet goes down on and off for two weeks, show up here in a timewarp. I think I am going to have to take two aspirins and call you back in the morning.
I am not sure if I like the changes. I know it will take getting used to, like a new boyfriend.

What's up with the Reputation button? Do we gain or lose our reputation on this site? Do we have to earn a good reputation? I have 10 points on mine, can they increase?

Just finished The Time Traveler's Wife by Audrey Niffenegger. Great book, although may not be to everyone's liking. It takes place in Chicago. The author's a beautiful writer.
No more skunk smell in the house thanks to Oust and Fabreze. :)

Could you explain some of the cool tools on here?
Administrator
03-03-2007, 02:21 PM
OK...
Believe me, we've turned off a lot of features. We hope to find a balance .... allowing everyone to express themselves in a peronalized way, without turning the place into a free-for-all. We're still committed to staying on topic and making sure that those who come for help, get it.
First of all... go ahead and try things... you can't break them. Some of my favorite features when using this software are:
Thread subscription. When you start a thread of post to a thread, look be low and you can subscribe to get notified when someone responds. That's really helpful in keeping up.
Using the text editor in the reply dialogue boxes is not different than most word processors. Just highlight the text and click on the icon for bold, underline or italics.
I'd also suggest using the QUOTE button when you respond to a comment or post.. this keeps the conversation on track and gives others a hint to what you're referencing. Great feature.
There is a private message system to use with other members.
For navigating... I like to use the New Posts link in the menu bar at top of the page. This will bring up a page with all the threads that have received activity since you were last here. Or, try the Today's Posts under the Quick Links menu in the top menu bar.
You've got your profile page. We've kept things to a minimum for safety reasons... but that's where you can edit your signature... put a little about yourself and access your Private Message Inbox.
Finally, rate those threads. As peoples reputations rise, it gives newer members insight to how your percieved by other members of the board. Reward those who display good netizenship... remember to do unto others. ;)
So... don't spend all your time in the Off Topic room... move along to the other sections, help others and be nice to eachother.
Clean start for everyone.

SImply highlight the text and click on the "U" icon. You have to use an open and close tag with the text nested between the two.
A closing tag looks like this
An open tag looks like this
I did them backwards so they wouldn't underline the text and disappear.

 I'm not having a good Sunday.
Actually it started Saturday evening. I shampooed the carpet. Got out the nail polish my oldest just spilled with a lot of hard work. Went to this great sale at a near by posh department store that I normally never shop at but I had these great coupons sold as a fund raiser from work. The good news was, my old size was too big, bad news, the next smaller size was small in some places. I couldn't even get interested in earrings. I bought nothing. :(
Went home and while I was on the phone, the darn cats got on the stereo speaker (I still have two rather big ones) and jumped to try to get to the fern on top of the TV stand. The huge fern came down over ended on the still damp carpet. I tried to clean it, it's a big old mess. The vacuum just spread it and then started coughing up dirt and crap. I have to re-shampoo once I figure out a way to get the rest of the dirt up. The house is torn apart as parts of the living room are in other rooms.
Now my basement drain is backing up which means I have to snake it out. I've watched my ex do it a few times but I have never done it. I have to go rent a snake and do it. But, I don't think the rental place is open today.
Just as well I have this pile of mud to deal with.
Right now, I'm just trying to get my mood under control. I went to bed upset, I woke up upset and just looking around made it worse. I was going hiking today but have ruled that out. I'm sitting listening to John Legend and sipping coffee thinking about a cat free house.

How awful, Tuffy. When my kids were younger, our carpet, no matter how many times I cleaned it, would like like a homeless shelter after a few weeks (it was "peach" colored). Cats, Cub Scout meetings, potted plants tipping over, etc, added to the look. Finally I ripped up the carpet and had the old, VERY old hardwood floors underneath refinished. It's really hard to keep carpet clean. Did you try vinegar and baking soda? Good luck with the backed-up drain.

Sorry your feeling that way Tuffy.
A few years ago, son knocked over Mami's nail polish and thought he'd clean it up with straight bleach. You guessed it, a two foot solid white circle in the grey carpet.

I got the vaccuum working and rewashed that part of the carpet. I yelled at the cats several times and made them wait for breakfast.
Now, I'm a tad more cheerful. The drain is still an issue but I'm pretty sure I can do it.
Now just have to start getting the house back to normal. Luckily the newly wet part of the carpet does not impact returning coffee table, end table, lamps etc.

My cats are never a problem but the pooch likes to sleep walk and pull things out of the trash cans. He's not a chewer but just likes to place things strategically around the house. Funny thing is, I can leave a plate of food on the coffee table and he never touches it but if there is a paper towel roll in the trash he thinks it belongs in the living room.

I am so glad to be getting close to clearing out the house. I have another freecycler coming to pick up the last fridge for a battered womens shelter.
I have given away most of the big stuff worth giving away and now have room to at least paint the walls and clean the carpets.
Problem is I have not found any place I'd like to move to. I love finally being debt free and hate to take on another big mortgage. I'd have to move to the sticks to find reasonable land. I will not live in a subdivision or an apartment so I'll just keep looking for a small home to rent until I find the right place. :o
